Motivation is not constantly present in our lives. There are times when we lack the drive and it’s easy to give up. We can temporarily loose sight of purpose and direction and feel stuck. This can be a result of a variety of influences; it could also be a result of feeling overwhelmed to take action and move forwards. There can also be too much ‘noise’ around us (and too much comparison) that prevents us to recognise and acknowledge our own path.
As C. S. Lewis said: ‘You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.’
This is the key – to acknowledge where you are and let go of where you think you should be. Own the space and take one action step today. That decision to show up, commit and do some work is a starting point. It doesn’t need to be perfect. In fact, it is about starting messy – it is through the actual journey that clarity emerges.
Your intension is the foundation. Plan your day the evening before – take your diary and create a few blocks of time (or just one) with clear tasks. On the day, close your inbox, put your phone away and be fully present with the task. Finish on time. Have a break and then move on to the next block. Making this plan the day before is important because on the actual day you don’t need to use any mental energy to think about what to do – you go straight into work that you set up.
